It is estimated that approximately 20 million tons of industrial paint is produced annually world-wide. Such large amount of paint requires a proportionately large number of personnel for its application, supervision and quality control. Also called industrial radiography, RT is a NDT method of inspecting materials for hidden flaws by using the ability of short wavelength electromagnetic radiation to penetrate various materials. Since the amount of radiation emerging from the opposite side of the material can be detected and measured, variations in this amount (or intensity) of radiation are used to determine thickness or composition ofmaterial.
Principles of X- and gamma-radiography; equipment; safety; selection of films and screens; exposure; processing; characteristics of the image; choice of technique; relevant standards; sensitivity, factors affecting the quality of radiographs etc.
